1. an outer coat or garment of rich material, often worn by knights over their armor and depicting their heraldic arms.
2. a long sleeveless garment worn by women in the Middle Ages over long sleeved gowns.
3. an outer coat, slightly longer than a jacket, worn by men and boys.
